Another – Lotsa blood and accidental deaths

Plot Summary: When Kōichi Sasakibara transfers to his new school, he can sense something frightening in the atmosphere of his new class, a secret none of them will talk about. At the center is the beautiful girl Mei Misaki. Kōichi is immediately drawn to her mysterious aura, but then he begins to realize that no one else in the class is aware of her presence.

Short Recap of episodes 1-4:
Episode 1: “Rough Sketch”
Koichi Sakakibara, protagonist, due to pneumothorax he had to miss one month worth of school. His classmates visited him in the hospital but they seemed weird and asked him a lot of personal questions. On that same day that his classmates visited him, he met a girl with an eye patch. She introduced herself as Mei Misaki. Once he recovers, he happily goes back to school and finds out that Misaki is his classmate in class 3-3. Though, nobody seems to notice her existence. He tried to talking to her on the roof but Misaki just brushed him off and said “You shouldn’t get close to me.” Because their class was apparently much closer to death than the others.

Episodes 2: “Blueprint”
In this episode pretty much nothing happens except that Koichi started getting curious about the curse and started inquiring Sanae Mizuno, the nurse he talks to a lot in the hospital, about the girl he saw at the hospital. He also happened upon a doll shop where he meets Misaki, who decides to show him what’s under her eye patch.

Episode 3: “Bone Work”
This episode is where things start to get interesting. Koichi finds out what is under Misaki’s eye. She reveals that one of her eyes is a doll’s eye. She also begins to tell Koichi part of the story surrounding the curse surrounding class 3-3.Misaki also reveals in this episode that she doesn’t exist and that only Koichi can see her. Sakuragi Yukari, one of the people that visited Koichi in the hospital, also died in this episode by getting impaled by an umbrella. This starts the string of deaths in the series.

Episode 4: “Put Flesh”
With everyone freaking about Yukari’s death, Koichi goes to Sanae again to talk about Misaki and the story surrounding the mystery of class 3-3 which happened 26 years ago. On his way home, he meets one of his classmates and manages to save her when a falling sheet of glass nearly crushed them. He goes to visit the doll store again and asks Misaki to tell him the rest of the story. She refuses to do so. In school the next day, Koichi is contacted by Sanae Mizuno and they talked about Misaki. Unfortunately, she is killed when the elevator she was riding falls down the shaft and crushes her.

Reviewing Episode 5: “Build Limbs”

Yes, I did. :|
This episode was really something. After thinking that the whole anime was some clichéd anime ghost story I was taken aback by the revelation that Misaki Mei actually EXISTS. I swear, I thought she was dead. I mean, in the first episode the show gives you the first part of the story about a person named Misaki dying by some unspecified accident. The gender was not specified. Neither was this person’s full name… so I really thought that Misaki Mei was the person from the ghost story. In this episode we find out why Misaki is considered a non-existent entity in their class and the full story of the curse.

It was only recently (During May) that Misaki Mei was treated as if she didn’t exist. Apparently, ever since the accidental death of Misaki(the original) 26 years ago, class 3-3 has been closer to death. Because of how the students treated Misaki, acting like s/he was still there, this more or less invited other dead people to participate in class. Every year, since then, there would be an extra person in class. Nobody would know who that person is. That person is assumed to be dead but that extra person doesn’t notice that s/he is dead. So, to make up for the extra person in class people started dying every month. I forgot how many years ago, but a class found a solution to this curse. They said that by treating one student as if s/he doesn’t exist helps to escape this curse because after this everyone in class started treating Koichi like he didn’t exist too. By interacting with Misaki Mei, the person who doesn’t exist, he has started the string of accidental deaths for the class.

By the way, he died in episode 5 too.
I forgot his name though

Aaaand, this is just sad. Just because of some stupid (albeit real curse) people start to treat you as if you didn’t exist. It’s like you’re dead too. Well, I guess that is the point. Dead people shouldn’t be going to school in the first place. –Sighs- I feel so bad for Mei. Although, I am curious how class 3-3 ended up choosing Mei as a sacrifice.

I can’t wait for the next episode! \(^o^)/
